Reach Out and Read is a nonprofit organization that provides young children with free age appropriate books and encourages families to read aloud together. They give young children a foundation for success by incorporating books into pediatrics care and encouraging families to read aloud together.
Reach Out and Read believes all families should have the tools and information they need to make reading aloud a daily routine. They help integrate reading into pediatric practices, advise families about the importance of reading with their children, and share books that serve as a catalyst for healthy childhood development.
At the beginning of each well child visit, Reach Out and Read will give each child a new, developmentally-appropriate book to take home with them. Books can even be useful for families who don’t read—we encourage them to talk about the story that the pictures tell. By making reading aloud a daily activity, Reach Out and Read helps ensure that every child has the healthy foundation they need—cognitively, socially, and emotionally.
