Region 9 CCR&R provides the following child care resource and referral services in the following counties: Alexander, Avery, Burke, Caldwell, Iredell, McDowell, Mitchell, Watauga, and Yancey.
CCR&R consumer education and referral services assist families at a critical point in children’s lives; at a time when parents will be entrusting some of their children’s care to an unknown person. For many parents this can be a very emotional, stressful experience. This is particularly true for first time parents. Turning over your child to someone else’s care is difficult. Calling your regional consumer education service will help guide you in finding quality child care that best meets the needs of your child and family. Consumer education and referral services help parents and guardians learn about early care and education and school-age child care programs that exist in their communities and become better informed consumers of these programs. Services are free and confidential for all families.
During the call a Resource & Referral Specialist will:
• Gather family information
• Assess needs and preferences
• Explain types of child care available
• Explain regulatory requirements (Star Rated License)
• Discuss importance of making program visits and what a parent should observe (quality indicators) or ask during a program visit
• Discuss the cost of child care and share information that may help pay the cost of care
• Provide referrals to licensed or license-exempt, legally operating programs
If you are looking for child care, please contact Mallory Renegar, Region 9 Resource & Referral Specialist at 1-877-670-8735.

The Birth-to-Three Quality Initiative (B-3QI) was established to improve the quality and availability of care for children ages birth to three in North Carolina through forging collaborative partnerships with teachers and directors. Birth-to-Three Specialists provide virtual cohort-based learning collaboratives for birth-to-three teachers and administrators across the state. The project is rigorously monitored to ensure consistency, equitability and quality of services delivered across the state, and its impact is evaluated by several measurable outcomes. For more information, please contact Alicia Shell [email protected] or 704.929.4259.
The School Age Initiative is available to all Region 9 licensed school age sites. The goal of the School Age Initiative is to equip school age educators and CCR&R statewide TA and PD staff with the developmentally appropriate tools needed to see students flourish and succeed inside and outside of the classroom. The NC CCR&R Council training platform allows school age professionals to access online training at convenient times with the personal support of a live, in-person trainer. Please contact Jon Williams at [email protected] or 828.450.9218 for more information.
The Family Child Care Home Project is available to all licensed family child care homes in Region 9. The project has worked with collaborating partners and stakeholders at the state and federal level to elevate and inform policy discussions that positively impact licensed Family Child Care Home professional educators. Through this work, the project now co-sponsors the NC Family Child Care Home Advisory Council. The Council is comprised of providers, parents and supporting agencies with the goal of lifting the collective voices of NC’s licensed FCCH professional educators.
